The ladies A team weremoving up the field the whole time and were effectively running out of groundtowards the end and finished in 5th place with the second teamcoming 8th, great running by all.

The second and final race of theday was the men’s equivalent. Here again we had 2 full teams, the format forthis event started with a 1 mile leg, then 2 mile, 3mile, 2 mile and finishingwith a 1mile leg. Ladies Retain Munster Crown

UL Athletics

PRO Kevin Moore

The first Saturday in October seen UL Athletics make advances to CIT for the now annualMunster Road Relays, to compliment to nationals that will take place in Maynooth next month.

It wasgreat to see so many UL Athletics rookies make their way down to Cork.

It turned out to be a great day for the ladies with a trio of Maeve Culhane, Ceara Riceand Becky Hand retaining the title they won last year in Waterford. The ladies never looked in doubt and held a great lead all the way to the line. Splits for the record were 1k 4:40, 2k 8:45, 1k 4:51 respectively. Well done girls.

In the men’s race we had two teams on the start line. Niall Tuohy and David Killen better known for his exploits over a shorter distance got UL Athletics off to a great start. The race started with a 1k leg followed by a 2k, then 3k, 2k and finish with a 1k. The actual lap was 1.145km for the record, for those looking at the times might be wondering! The men’s A team had Men’s captain NiallTuohy, Shawn McCormack, yours truly, George Fischer and Pat Foley, the latter two making their UL debuts with very impressive performances. Times for therecord were 3:13, 8:14, 10:55, 7:24 and 3:19. The lads combined to finish 4th only 6 seconds off third. The B team of David, Eoin Lees, Brian Campion, Aodghan Tuohy and Kieran Casey combined well to finish 5th. Theirsplits 3:48, 8:20, 12:06, 8:30 and 4:02. Well done to all involved.

The nextrace for UL Athletics will be the national road relays taking place in Maynooth next month.

Dear Active Members, pending members and last year's members,

Welcome to the start of the 2012/13 year! It was great to have so many of you sign up at the Recruitment Drive on Wednesday, both new and old, as we prepare for a big year for the club!

Quick reminder first that I will be sending emails out to 2011/12 members for this week only while people are still signing up but from next Monday onwards all notifications will be sent ONLY to current members. So if you haven't done so already, PLEASE SIGN IN TO WWW.ULWOLVES.IE AND PRE-REGISTER.

Here are things to note:

1. For this week, week 2, we will just have trainings on Monday and Thursday at 6.15pm, meeting at the outdoor athletics track. Those that have some experience in sprints/jumps before can start with the sprints group at track. All distance runners and beginners can meet with me and some of the committee and we will go for an easy run around the grass pitches behind the track. This will be suitable for ALL LEVELS and good to get to know each other.

Full training will start in week 3 in terms of all training sessions including Circuit Training Tuesday 5.30-7pm (PESS Building Sports hall) for all members.

2. There will be an EGM, a meeting for the whole club and new members, on Monday week 3 (Monday 24th). I will email next week with the time and venue but will probably be around 8pm in one of the academic buildings on campus. This will be a good place to bring your 5euro to join if you have pre-registered and want to become an active member. Alternatively, you can give to me (Niall) or Una Britton (Womens captain) or another committee member at training this week.

3. At the club meeting we will discuss details on the coaching and training within club, social events (Wednesday week 3 we will have BBQ etc), upcoming races (including Munster Road Relays on October 6th), club clothing, fundraisers, accommodating throwers/pole vault and field event athletes and potential for warm weather training camp over Christmas holidays.

Until then...hope to see you at training this week and pencil in Monday 24th for the club meeting, much better if everyone attends and gets all the information up front:)

Lets get ready to rumble,

Niall Tuohy
